We now have all our Parade information. Updates are in red. The parade sponsor is very happy to have us participate this year.

The parade officially begins at 3pm. I think the three hour window includes the gospel concert in the park afterward, but I was not planning on attending that. We will have a Troop 1563 Family Picnic in the park after the parade. School starts the next day, so leave when it makes sense for your family. Please "check out" with me before you disappear with your daughter. Girls that get hungry frequently should eat before they come and remember that we are having a picnic afterward.

Girls wishing to help make decorations should call Troop Leader Mandy 512-850-3044. We have a few more rolls to decorate. We need to string our garland together. We also need to make signs to hold during the parade. If anyone has other decorations they would like to bring over prior to Sunday, please let me know. We don't have any plans yet, so just call when you want to come over.

A special thanks to Madison's mom- she got us a flat bed trailer so we can all ride together! Our float will be lined with hay for sitting. If parents want to bring over their picnic blankets when they drop off their daughters, we can judge if we to use them to cover the hay. If not, you can take it back to the car with you. Girls voted to throw candy. They should understand that the candy is for the kids watching the parade, not a snack to eat during the parade. We have an option to sit in the float the whole time, or to take turns hopping off (at slow points) to walk and wave at people. Mandy and Gloriana (and maybe one more adult) will be the supervising adults. All other parents are asked to go watch the parade and take pictures.

What to bring the day of the parade:
  • a smile and a cheery attitude
  • Girls should wear their gray troop shirts, their vests, and shorts. They should also wear comfortable walking shoes. Girls need to bring a bottled water to stay hydrated during the parade. Label the bottle with her name in big easy-to-see letters. Please go to the bathroom prior to arriving. Ponytails, sunscreen, hats, and sunglasses are also suggested.
  • Parents and other family members need to a cell phone, chairs to sit on to watch the parade- and a camera to take pictures.
  • Families are responsible for their own picnic dinners/drinks for after the parade. You can sit in your parade chairs or bring a blanket. Please do not send your daughter on the float with her meal.
  •
Tentative Itinerary:
  • 1:30 Load in parade vehicles. Girls do not need to be there at this point.
  • 1:45 - 2pm Parents drop off girls with Troop Leaders ("check in" with Mandy or Gloriana) near our troop's parade vehicle at Delco Center.
  • Parents leave to park cars at authorized locations, set up chairs, etc. for viewing parade.
  • 3pm: Parade begins
  • Parade Procession
  • Parents meet troop at parade end (Bartholomew Park) Parents should have cell phone access so that we can find each other. Mandy 512-850-3044. Gloriana 512-554-1960.
  • Girls receive school supplies from Parade Sponsor.
  • Troop Families venture off into a less crowded area of the park to have a picnic dinner together.

Parade Route and parking information is available here.

I know the girls are going to ask- yes, they will receive a Parade Fun Patch on Monday.

Reminder:
Monday August 23, 6pm- Parents are encouraged to attend the girls' Best Memory Performances, which they have been (hopefully) working on at home. We will also be having our August Court of Awards. The evening's festivities will take place in the open area with the stage, in our area of the church. Feel free to bring a snack to lay out on our meeting table. We typically have 15-20 people.
