Last Week's Challenge:
Girl Scout Volunteer Appreciation Week (see calendar for details.) We talked about what a volunteer is. Girls realized not everyone gets paid and some people do things for other benefits- not just money. Girls discussed that they have been volunteers themselves. Girls were challenged to think of other people who volunteer like the local fire department, Sunday School teachers, moms that help out in the classroom, etc. and think of a way to show that you appreciate them. This could be a card, a batch of cookies, or a simple phone call. Girls will report back to the troop when they have completed the challenge. This challenge will continue until all the girls have let someone know they appreciate them.
Easter Fun:
Today we will have a troop Egg Hunt. Each girl needs to bring her own basket. Additionally, please bring some eggs (fresh decorated hard-boiled, plastic candy-filled, or confetti-filled cascarones.) While the girls are inside having their meeting 6-6:30, volunteer moms will go outside to hide the eggs. 6:30ish they will hunt and then enjoy their goodies. You may also bring an Easter themed snack to share if you like. We may or may not play a game.
Meeting Plan:
Finalize Lemonade plans. Bring everything you have today. We had a costume try-on a few weeks ago. It will probably be hot on Lemonade Day so keep that in mind. We could use some tiaras/crowns. If all else fails, her fanciest dress and a crown will keep her cooler than a hot costume. Girls are invited to wear fancy hair and makeup on Lemonade Day to complete her ensemble- though it is not required. Participation is completely voluntary.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE take your daughter to collect cups. We have been practicing what to say. I know it's easier for you to ask the manager, but it is important for you to practice with her as well to build her self confidence. You should definitely stand near by to support her, though.
Have her ask to speak with the manager. Here is a sample script to use on the manager:
"I'm running a lemonade stand with some of my friends who have cousins with leukemia. We want to send those kids to Disney World. Would you like to donate some SMALL TO-GO CUPS?"
Most restaurants will say yes. There are a few that require paperwork or a GM's approval- so those will probably say no. Say Thank You to everyone, even if they don't give cups. Be sure to write down the locations (include the street/general area) that do give cups so we can thank them later. Continue collecting cups until Lemonade Day. We can also accept donations- to be put directly into the Cousins with Leukemia Disney Trip fund.
Lemonade Day is Sunday, May 1. PLEASE contact Mandy ASAP if you plan to be there- this includes your kid, you, other family members that want to help. The more, the merrier. We will likely work in shifts so that we can be open for a longer period of time. Let me know when you are available. Girls are welcome to be dropped off/picked up at the location- but only with advance notice so we can assure proper supervision.
Note for This Week: Thursday April 28 is Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day. Girls that go to work with a trusted adult and report back to the troop on what they learned will receive a patch- assuming they do not already have the patch. This can also count as and activity towards the Careers Try It (as well as the lemonade stand.)
This Sunday, May 1, is our Lemonade Stand. See above for more info.
