Community

"Do a Good Turn Daily."

Through Girl Scouts, girls "develop leadership skills, strong values, social conscience, and conviction about their own potential and self-worth."   Community Service is an excellent way for the girls to develop these values.

Community Service events can be one day outings, or long term projects. We always have the option of doing projects solely as a Troop or enlisting the help of our community.  Example: Advertise about a Community Clean-Up Day hosted by our Troop. OR Print wishlists and glue to paper bags. Drop paper bags on neighborhood porches, to be picked up a few days later..

After speaking with the Troop, they all agreed they'd like to do projects benefiting nature, animals, and other children. If you have any Community Service ideas, please don't hesitate to share.

Once a project has been committed to, it will show up on our Troop Calendar.

Here is our current list of ideas:
  • plant trees
  • trash pick up, in our own community or at the Children's Home
  • help a local children's home (STARRY or Texas Baptist Children's Home) with its wishlist
  • help plant in the Healing Garden
  • Christmas or birthday gifts for needy children
  • help out with Operation Cookie 2011
  • participate in an Ecological Literacy workday at the Hornsby Bend Bird Observatory
  • Liquid Laundry Detergent Drive for the Children's Home
