Saturday October 30: Pink Beads of Love Project

The Walnut Creek Service Unit is hosting a Service Project, and we've been invited to help!
This is the 4th annual "Pink Beads of Love" they have hosted. Each year, Girl Scouts gather at the local Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure and hand out pink bracelets to breast cancer survivors. The race this year falls on November 7- when we will be at the Juliette Gordon Lowe Birthday Celebration. We can still support Pink Beads of Love by helping make the 1,500 bracelets needed for the event.

When?
Saturday October 30
2 time slots to choose from:
9am-10am OR 12pm-1pm

Where?
Girl Scouts of Central Texas, Kodosky Program Center
12012 Park Thirty-five Circle
Austin TX 78753

(The Girl Scout place off I-35. Many of you have been there before.)

Fee and Registration:
The fee is $5 per person, which includes a participation patch.
You must register with Raechel Stanford at raestanford@gmail.com
The link says registration has closed, but there are still several spots open. If you would like to attend please let me know ASAP in the hopes that we can all register for the same time slot. (But you can go on your own as well, as long as you register with Raechel.) The link mentions parent permission slips, but if your parent is attending, I don't think you need one. Tag-a-longs are welcome, but they must have a Tag-a-long Release of Liability.
Here is the link for more information.

RSVP list:
As of 10/28/10
Amri and Mandy
Gabriella and Jessica
Naya and Rosie and little brother
We are registered for the 12-1 slot. It says it's closed, but you can ask if you can squeeze in. There is still availability in the 9-10 slot.

Gingerbread House Contest for GSCTX

Would you guys like to participate in the Girl Scout Shop's Gingerbread House Contest?
To enter, the Troop must purchase the kit from the Girl Scout Shop for  $15, and submit the entry form. We then pick a design from the book, purchase supplies, and let our creativity lead us where it may as we decorate.

Houses must be turned in the the shop by November 30. Voting is held December 3-4. The winning troop receives a $50 GS shop gift card and will be featured in the December eNews. All entries will be donated to local charities. Troops have an option of delivering them in person, which I think would be a nice touch.

Let me know what you think!

This event has passed.
Attendance:
Amri
Atalli
Mikayla
Ariana
Emonee

Try It Activities Completed:
pg. 164 Sounds of Music #5
pg. 164 Sounds of Music #7 (We learned the Brownie Smile Song.)

Notes:
We were locked out today, so the meeting started late. We discussed our role in Friday's Bridging Ceremony (details on next post.) The girls voted on what they will say. Ariana volunteered to speak on behalf of our troop. Then we made a music mobile. For snack we had granola bars. Amri, Emonee, Atalli, and Ariana turned in completed Badge Sheets for Sounds of Music. The ticket order form for the Overnighter at the Dell Diamond was sent home. Look for it in the front of her Badge Book. Girls voted on 2 upcoming Field Trips/Community Service projects:
  • Sunday June 6, 4-8ish pm: Night of the Bat (A link is available on our calendar- I'll make a post as we get closer to the event date.)
  •  We have been trying to do a trash pick-up for a while now. We have a sheriff who will come out and talk to the girls. We decided we want to pick up litter at Lake Walter E. Long. I will be making arrangements soon, and posting once things are finalized.
Upcoming Events: This Friday- May 21- we have a Ceremony to attend. See the Bridging Ceremony Post.

Original Post:
Well- I've been waiting for the leaders of the Bridging troops to get back with me with some details about Friday's Ceremony and they have not. All I know right now is that our troop is responsible for bringing:
-2 cases of bottled water
-60 individual snack bags of chips
If we divide that up its 5 girls bringing a box of a dozen chips and 2 girls each bringing one case of water and a bonus girl to bring either.

I was hoping we'd learn our song tonight but we'll come up with something else to do. We can learn the Brownie Smile Song tonight. I'll count it towards our Sounds Of Music Try It. We have a lot of events coming up so we can discuss those and maybe play a game.

Tonight we'll update Badge Books. Remember that these belong to the troop and not to you, so take good care of them! They need to come to EVERY meeting with you so you get credit for the things you have done.
If you have completed Badge Worksheets- turn them in! All completed worksheets must be received by Wednesday for you to get your patches this Friday at the Ceremony.

Upcoming Events:
Fri 5/21 6-7:30pm Bridging Ceremony for local Girl Scouts. Whole Troop attendance is strongly encouraged. Girls should wear their vest and brown bottoms (shorts, skirt, pants, etc.) I suggest purchasing some shorts, as we will wear the same thing to the Dell Diamond in July.
At the Ceremony, girls in our troop will receive a membership star with a green disk to signify the completion of their first year as a Brownie.
Amri and Madison should both currently have one star with a blue disk for their previous year as a Daisy.
Stars are worn on the vest, under the troop numbers. By glancing at a Scout's vest, you can quickly determine how long she has been a Girl Scout. We will also hold our next Court of Awards at the Bridging Ceremony. Additionally, we will be handing out Cookie Prizes. I will make a post for the ceremony after tonight's meeting.

Sun 6/6 Night of the Bat (see calendar for details.)

Sun 7/11- Mon 7/12 Overnighter at the Dell Diamond. Info about this is now available  at the bottom of the Troop Calendar. Tonight you should receive your Dell Diamond Ticket Order Form.
