Try It Activities Completed:
pg. 26 Eat Right, Stay Healthy #1pg. 26 Eat Right, Stay Healthy #3

Notes:
We began the clothes-pin method today. After working on Try Its and correctly identifying the tree outside (other girls will get a chance next week,) we took a seed pod sample of the tree. Upon examination we learned that the pods have not yet produced seeds. The girls observed that the insides "look like asparagus" and "smell like pepper."

Next, in preparation for this weekend's Community Service event, we looked up bats in the various animal books I brought.

Girls closed by playing on the church playground.
Thanks to Atalli's mom for providing ingredients for today's snack/activity.

Today we will make yogurt parfaits for Activity #3 of the Eat Right, Stay Healthy Try It. I will also plan a second activity from one of these patches:
Make It, Eat It
Eat Right, Stay Healthy
Science Wonders
Bats
(Those are some of the badges the girls voted to work on next.)

Girls that can identify the tree that grows outside the church will receive a small surprise today.

Hints: The leaves are heart-shaped, dull green above/paler green on the underside. The fruit- which has many flat, brown seeds- is green, but turns dark brown in the fall when it matures. There is a specific sphinx month that lives on the tree. They feed on the leaves of the tree and the caterpillars are a favorite treat of fish. This tree goes by two similar sounding names.

We will probably begin our new clothes pin behavior system today. Girls will get 3 clothes pins at the beginning of the meeting and lose one each time they are asked to stop being disruptive. Losing all 3 means sitting out for the rest of the meeting. I doubt it will come to that, but we've lost a lot of time having to clean big messes and such in the past.

Please remember to bring your Dell Diamond ticket order forms with you today! It has been confirmed that there is not a return policy. Once the ticket is purchased, we are out the money. If the troop pays for your daughter and she does not attend, you will need to reimburse the troop. Once I have everyone's order, I will purchase our tickets. The next step will be sending home the various permission slips. July is inching closer and closer- how exciting!

Reminder: Night of the Bat is this Sunday- I need a headcount so that I can get us our tee-shirts!
