Original Post:

Today we will be honoring the birthday of the founder of Girl Scouts: Juliette Gordon Low. 

You can still attend this event if you did not register. Prior arrangements must have been made for Chili Cook Off participation (rules are on your forms), but you can pay at the door for entrance into the event. The price will then be $5 per person. Everything inside the event is supposed to be free and families are welcome. If you have any questions, call Donna Carlin at 512-461-0830.

If you have an extra folding table or outdoor extension cords for sharing, please label them with your name and phone number and bring them to set-up.
11-5-10 Update:
We had a Service Unit meeting last night. I will e-mail you the newest info on the JGL event. See you all Sunday!

Each member of Troop 1563 needs to bring at least 2 dozen undecorated cupcakes, any flavor. (If you are using a cake mix, one box should suffice.) All cupcakes need to be in paper liners. We're trying to stick with a Fall theme. You also need to bring one tub of frosting (or the equivalent of you're the home-made kind of person) and Fall themed edible decorations. Target currently has some in the Dollar Spot for 50cents. Your total cost should be less than $10. Please see the Bonus Item sign up list at the bottom of this post. We will set up our booth at 2pm. Girls and parents will take turns manning our booth, but are encouraged to wander and enjoy the various other booths. This is all planned by the children- and this is the first year with additional booths, so we'll see how many Troops participate. I've also heard that there will be a silent auction, benefiting Friends of Girl Scouts. Just wander around, meet other Scout families from our Service Unit, and have fun!

Girls should wear their uniforms (just don't get chili or frosting on it) and dress appropriately for the weather. It may get chilly during the movie. You could also bring your camera, sunscreen, bug spray, a picnic blanket (for the movie) and camp chairs for hanging out.

What a fabulous turn-out! Wow! Way to support Girl Scouts! Thank you everyone. Sorry I was late...We won't know which service unit had the highest turn out until the Friends of Girl Scouts lady releases that info, but the girls that hosted the event tonight said they think Troop 1563 had the highest Troop turn-out. I'm so proud of you guys! Girl Scouts of Central Texas gets 20% of the profits from all 5 Pluckers GS Night Patio Sales. I'll let you know when I find out how much money was raised. Our troop doesn't get a check or anything, but that money goes towards keeping costs low for Council sponsored events (like the over-nighter at the Dell Diamond.) The money also helps out with scholarships and financial aid and such.

Some of us sampled Fried Caramel Delights- yum! (vanilla ice cream with chunks of caramel delights, sprinkled with toasted coconut...)

We had our 2nd Court of Awards. Great job, girls! Keep up the good work. Whenever you complete four activities on a Badge Worksheet, fill out the bottom section and turn it in so that you can get the patch at our next ceremony. Some of you owe worksheets for badges you received tonight- get those to me on Monday, please. The "Recognitions" page has been updated.

Additional Notes:

We are starting work on our Careers Try It, pg. 22. Atalli's dad works downtown, across from Town Lake. He is going to ask his boss if we can set up our Lemonade Stand there (Sunday, May 2.) If not, we will do a stand closer to home. Everyone needs to go to the Lemonade Day website to register- and afterward, to a RunTex location to pick up your free supply back-pack. I've not picked up Amri's  yet, but it's supposed to have everything we need. We will need to do some advertising (tell your friends and family.) We will discuss it further at Monday's meeting. When you register, it asks which contest you want to enter. We picked "best stand."

Original Post:

Come on out, eat dinner as a troop- and with oodles of other Scouts- and raise money for Friends of Girl Scouts. The Service Unit with the best turn out gets some sort of a prize. I'm not positive, but I believe kids always eat free at Pluckers. In any case, this event will not be paid for by the Troop.

Please let me know if you are coming so that we can try to all sit together. Our April Court of Awards will be held while we are waiting for our table. If your daughter has any completed Badge Worksheets, I MUST receive them before Thursday in order to get the badge. Anyone not in attendance will receive their patches at our next meeting. If your daughter needs to carpool, please let us know in advance.

Girls should wear their vests.

We will be meeting at the South Lamar location at 6:30. (Take 71 to Lamar, turn right.) If you can get there a little early, that would be great. I have no idea what sort of wait there might be.

Volunteer Recognition is at 7pm. Pluckers will be offering a special dessert: Fried Caramel Delights- yum!

 Tell all your friends and family to eat at Pluckers that night- they can go anytime between 5-8pm. The hostess or the waiter will ask for our Service Unit name- be sure to say Mustang Valle.

Today we welcomed several of our adults to join us for a Thank You Party of sorts. Girls played an animal guessing game with the adults. Girls reflected on Earth Day Festival Field Trip and answered questions. We also planted seeds in egg cartons- remember to keep the soil moist- rain water works best. You can collect it in a jar. Badge Books were handed out. For information about Badge Books, click here.  We briefly discussed Austin Lemonade Day. I am hoping each of you will register for this event, pick up your free kit, and be your child's adult mentor for the May 2 event. Advertise by making signs for your neighborhood and calling all of your friends and family. This counts as pg. 23 Careers Try It Activity #6. The awesome part is that that the girl gets to keep 100% of the profits. I am encouraging the girls to donate this money to their troop so that we can fund future field trips and community service projects. However, the girls are free to do whatever they choose with their money.

Thursday, April 22 is not just Earth Day, but it's also a Girl Scout Holiday: Leader's Day!

Girl Scout Leader Day began on April 22, 1982, when a flag honoring Girl Scout leaders was flown over the Capitol building in Washington, D.C.
Leader's Day honors all the adult Girl Scout volunteers that work with our Girls. It is because of these thousands of volunteers that  the Girl Scout program a success.

One of the best ways a Girl can show her appreciation is by living her commitment to the Girl Scout Law:

I will do my best to be
honest and fair,
friendly and helpful,
considerate and caring,
courageous and strong, and
responsible for what I say and do,
and to
respect myself and others,
respect authority,
use resources wisely,
make the world a better place, and
be a sister to every Girl Scout.

We will not be meeting on Thursday, so we will celebrate Leader's Day at our Monday 4/19 meeting by hosting a Volunteers' Party. We'll be at the River Road Baptist Church at 6pm. We invite all the adults of our troop (especially the ones that are Registered Girl Scouts!) to attend. This will be more of an Activity Day than a full-blown party. All the activities we have planned for today are designed to be done with a grown-up buddy!

You can help that special Girl Scout in your life work towards a badge- and you might even earn one yourself!

The girls are eager to prove that they can, indeed, be friendly, caring, responsible, fair, resourceful, and helpful little Brownies.

There was no one at the church when we arrived, so we were locked out for a little bit. We started/finished late. Sorry about that. Thank you to Atalli and family for providing drinks tonight.Girls decorated cookies. Girls made party masks for Homemaking Day. We read the second Brownie Story. We should have another new Scout soon, bringing our Troop up to 10 girls! We are in need of an Assistant Leader. If anyone (male or female) would like to volunteer, please let me know and I will get you the list of training requirements.

Girls are invited to bring a small gift for each of the other Scouts.We are now up to 10 Scouts. Gift ideas include pencils, small toys, edible treats, and other party favors. The girls can wrap their gifts if they like. I will provide cake. If you have additional party ideas, feel free to share by leaving a comment below.


Monday also happens to be Homemaking Day of GS Week. We will be making something together.

 There will not be a meeting Monday March 15th. Our next meeting will be Monday March 22, at which the girls will discuss what they did in honor of Girl Scout Week. Credit will be given to all girls who have worked on Try It activities.

World Thinking Day: an annual Global Girl Scout Holiday! Each year on February 22, girls participate in activities, games and projects with global themes to honor their sister Girl Guides and Girl Scouts in other countries. This year's theme: "together we can end extreme poverty and hunger."

Our first meeting is Monday- February 22, 6-7. During the girls' portion of the meeting, we'll talk about what it means to be a Girl Scout and what World Thinking Day is about. If time allows, we will plan a community service project around this year's theme.

We need to have a brief parent meeting. I'd like to be sure each girl has a parent/guardian present at 6:45 so we can all be on the same page. The girls will be engaged in an activity and we can discuss dues, volunteer opportunities, and such.

World Thinking Day is the perfect day for your daughter to receive The World Trefoil Pin! Please bring it to the meeting. The World Trefoil Pin goes on the Insignia Tab, worn on the left side of the uniform.
